States blunder may have blocked fuel price drop

States Members on Thursday attended an emergency briefing convened by Infrastructure Minister Eddie Noel following news that he had signed off the renewal of a ten-year lease for the operation of the Fuel Farm at La Collette, where petroleum products are landed in Jersey and stored before distribution.

It is understood an oversight by a minister or civil servant meant that the contract to operate the site was not put out to tender 18 months before the expiry of the current lease on 31 January this year.

The lease to operate the Fuel Farm is currently held by La Collette Terminal Ltd – a wholly owned subsidiary of fuel wholesalers Rubis.
