Giving evidence to the Independent Jersey Care Inquiry, Mrs Kinnard, who was Home Affairs Minister during the launch of the investigation into historical child abuse in 2007, described how she feared losing her job because the States police’s inquiry could damage the ‘sacred totem’ of Jersey’s reputation.
During the day-long hearing she also claimed:
- To be a lone voice in the Council of Ministers and that she was subjected to bullying and sexism by her colleagues
- Former Senator Dick Shenton told her a little bit of corruption was not a bad thing
- Chief Minister Frank Walker publicly stated that Jerseys child care provision was something to be proud of even though a report had branded it mediocre
- Legislation affecting Jerseys finance industry was prioritised ahead of updating the Sex Offenders Law.
