Hands off our park! Angry Islanders tell Health Minister what they think of option for site of new hospital

There was standing room only at the Town Hall as hundreds of people from across the Island came to listen to, and share their views on, the controversial proposals – and during the debate, the Council of Ministers came under attack for placing the park on the shortlist.

One angry audience member repeatedly shouted ‘Not the People’s Park, not the People’s Park’ during the heated meeting, while others accused ministers of failing to listen to the public.

The meeting was organised by campaign group Save People’s Park, which has more than 2,000 members on its Facebook page, for all Islanders who want to protect the site from redevelopment, and after the Assembly Room filled to capacity, dozens had to sit in the committee rooms to listen to panel members Chief Minister Ian Gorst, Health Minister Andrew Green, Christian May, chairman of Save People’s Park, St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft, former Health Minister Ben Shenton and St Helier Deputy Sam Mézec.
