Banning cheap alcohol offers should be supported by education, say supermarkets

The JEP reported on Saturday that offers on alcohol could be banned in supermarkets and shops under new plans aimed at improving public health.

The new rules would outlaw special offers, buy-one-get-one-free deals, time-limited price reductions and bulk discounts in supermarkets and shops.

Mark Cox, chief operating officer at the Co-op, said that the supermarket shared the States’ concerns and a spokesperson for Waitrose agreed that the ban should include a ‘long-term approach’ to education about alcohol consumption.
