Airport, Harbour and freight services to be reviewed by competition watchdog

The Channel Islands Competition and Regulatory Authorities made the announcement yesterday as they issued details of their work programme for 2016.

During the next 12 months, the CICRA intend to investigate how the telecoms market can be opened up further and will scrutinise broadband prices and fixed-call services.

They also intend to carry out a strategic assessment of the telecoms sector and investigate ways in which they can eliminate an ‘unnecessary regulatory burden’ on operators.

The CICRA will also analyse standards at the ports to ensure that the authorities are engaging with customers and listening to users when making decisions. The charges made by Ports of Jersey will also be reviewed.
