No jail for man who held a saw to colleague’s neck at the sand dunes

Scott Peter Graham Le Corre used the saw to threaten the man after an argument broke out between the pair during a work placement on the sand dunes in St Ouen’s Bay.

The dispute started when the 24-year-old defendant cut a tree branch which then fell onto his victim, the Magistrate’s Court heard on Wednesday.

The incident was reported to the group’s supervisor and the saw was taken from Le Corre, who has since been removed from the work scheme.

No injuries were caused to the victim.

Advocate Emma Wakeling, defending, said that her client, who pleaded guilty to grave and criminal assault and has no previous convictions, wanted to apologise to the man. She said he had co-operated with police during the investigation.

Assistant Magistrate Peter Harris, presiding, said that although no contact had been made with the victim, the crime was aggravated because of the use of a weapon and it was only because of his ‘exceptional’ background that he would not be sending him to jail.

‘This is your first time that you find yourself in court and you want to make sure it’s your last appearance,’ he said. ‘If you engage in any sort of behaviour like this again, you are seriously at risk of going to prison.’

Le Corre was sentenced to a six-month probation order.
