The annual Fort Regent sale, now in its sixth year, sells donations of unwanted Christmas presents to raise funds, and this year’s efforts raised £7,000, including £1,600 at the sale itself – far exceeding last year’s total of £4,500.
Organiser Peter Allman said that it had been a ‘brilliant’ day and that up to 400 Islanders turned up to the sale, which was held on Saturday between 9 am and noon.
Jersey Side by Side, which is currently assisting with relief projects in Nepal, which was hit by a series of earthquakes last year, was set up in 2005 following the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami which caused devastation across south-east Asia.
More information about the charity and details of how to donate to it are available on its Facebook page.
