Terri the turtle on way to recovery and may be flown home

The loggerhead turtle named Terri (because its gender is unknown) was found at Grève d’Azette last week.

It was taken to the New Era Veterinary Hospital, which feared that the ‘cold-shocked’ reptile, which is normally found in much warmer waters like those around the Canary Islands and the Caribbean, would not survive.

The Fresh Fish Company donated a special tank for Terri to live in, and after nine days in care the turtle’s condition has improved.

New Era clinical director Amanda Smith said that the reptile could soon be on its way back to a more natural habitat.

‘We want to her get back to the Canary Islands, that’s the ultimate aim, but at the moment we are still trying to increase her temperature,’ she added.

‘The next step is to see if we can get her eating.’
