Former Chief Minister did not want police to investigate child abuse, Harper tells inquiry

Giving evidence at the Independent Jersey Care Inquiry yesterday, Mr Harper said that a number of politicians did not support the investigation, which was launched covertly in 2007 and publicly the following year.

And on Wednesday he said that although Mr Walker appeared to support the force’s investigation when speaking in public, behind the scenes he made it clear he did not want it.

Mr Walker, who left politics in 2008, was due to give evidence to the inquiry on Thursday.
