Video: Fugitive otter Geoff spotted enjoying himself in woods

Geoff, a south-east Asian short clawed otter, breached his enclosure at the start of December and made the three-mile trip to the woods where he has been living off fish and small rodents.

Keepers at Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust have imported specialist traps into the Island and are now working to try to recapture the three-year-old and return him to the park. The traps have been rigged with de-shelled mussels that Geoff enjoys eating.

Dom Wormell, head of mammals at Durrell, said ‘We are in the process of laying traps but we have to be careful because we don’t want to accidentally catch wild animals or dogs or cats,’ he said.
