Artists double up with success in national draw

Images by Josh Bale (22) and Will Bertram (24), both of whom have worked for local art studio The Kartoon Faktory, were among six runners-up in the under-30s category of the 2015 Young Cartoonist of the Year award.

Mr Bale, who recently finished a visual communication degree at Bournemouth Arts University, entered a bold, colourful image of two fierce-looking Jersey seagulls with a tagline that suggested a film sequel: ‘Where Seagulls Stare’ – a play on the film Where Eagles Dare.

Mr Bertram, a freelance illustrator who is completing a foundation art degree at Highlands College, offered a dark twist on the festive children’s book and animation ‘The Snowman’ in which the main character, while being carried through the air, says: ‘Icarus – what a funny name for a snowman.’
