Daphne Minihane, chairman of Age Concern, said that the annual payment, which currently stands at £83.73, is all that many of Jersey’s pensioners receive from the States after a lifetime of hard work and contributions.
Two months ago the States voted to scrap the bonus as part of plans to save the Social Security Department £10 million over the next four years.
And last week a proposition lodged by Deputy Southern to reinstate the annual payment on a means-tested basis was narrowly defeated by 23 votes to 22.
