Would you camp in King Street overnight for a pair of £150 trainers?

Around 30 people wrapped up in thick jumpers, coats and sleeping bags and set up camp outside Roulette Clothing in Halkett Place so they could guarantee themselves a chance at buying the limited edition £150 Adidas shoes.

The group, some of who had been waiting since 2 pm on Friday despite the trainers not going on sale until 10 am on Saturday, braved the cold as the mercury dropped to around 11°C.

They were all desperate to get their hands on the new Adidas Yeezy Boost 350s that rapper Kanye West has put his name to.

It is believed that only 30 pairs of the trainers went on sale in Jersey.

Some of the waiting crowd said they were buying the shoes for fashion while others said they were an investment. Pairs have already started to appear for sale online for as much as £850.

Marco Do Nascimento, manager at the store, said the it was a one-off chance to buy the shoes as they were limited edition. He added that the waiting group had been well behaved.

‘We did expect this reaction. These have been hyped up over the last six months. I am sure there will be some resale value on these, we are selling them for £150,’ he said.

‘The global launch was at 10 am. We are the only place in Jersey that is selling them. I think there are only 20 outlets in the whole of the UK.

‘We have a limited number in sizes four to ten.’

Personal trainer Tom Hooper, who had been queuing since 2 pm on Friday and only got 30 minutes sleep, was the first to get his hands on the trainers.

‘These shoes are just so limited and it’s really hard to get them in Jersey so we thought we would have a camp out. It has definitely been worth it. I got about 30 minutes’ sleep last night and I kept getting woken up to write a list of people’s names down who were queueing.’

He added: ‘The police came along and had a chat. They were wondering what was going on and one policeman said he actually collects trainers himself. They just told us to behave and be careful.

‘I am first on the list and I’ve got my size eights.’
