Ozouf represents Island at summit in Peru

Senator Philip Ozouf and Joe Moynihan, the director of financial services in the Chief Minister’s Department, last week attended the world’s largest gathering of financial services ministers, which took place in Lima, Peru.

The events centred around the meeting of Commonwealth ministers including UK Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne and senior finance officials.

It was held in conjunction with the International Monetary Fund and World Bank annual meetings.

During the week Senator Ozouf attended meetings with delegations from G20 countries and with senior executives from global institutions with businesses in Jersey, with the aim of reinforcing relationships with global institutions that have a presence in Jersey as well as attracting new business.

Senator Ozouf said: ‘It is more important than ever before that Jersey’s voice is heard on the world stage.

‘This conference was an opportunity for me to hold bilateral ministerial meetings and for our senior official to meet counterparts from governments from around the world, with the objective of boosting Jersey jobs and growth.

‘This annual finance event is one of the best-attended meetings of the global community of financial services ministers, central bank governors and senior finance industry executives.

‘Jersey has an increasingly strong message regarding the part we continue to play in the global move towards greater transparency.

During the events ministers from G20 countries endorsed the OECD proposals to clamp down on corporate tax avoidance.

The Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) project is designed to prevent multinational companies from moving profits to other lower-tax jurisdictions in order to avoid paying the full weight of tax in countries where those profits are actively made.
