Paramedics, fire fighters and police officers: Learn more about Jersey’s emergency services at open day

The States police, the Fire and Rescue Service and ambulance staff will come together for the public event to showcase how they work to keep the public safe on a daily basis.

Inspector Mark Coxshall

The event, which runs from 11 am to 4 pm, will include police dog displays, a simulated road traffic crash and a chip pan fire demonstration.

Inspector Mark Coxshall, head of the community policing team, said that the open days were key to engaging with the public.

‘It’s all about showing the public what their money is being spent on,’ he said. ‘We want to show them that we have the tools and equipment to keep them safe.

‘From a police point of view, we can showcase the work we do on crime reduction, and there will also be a stand relating to the new police headquarters. It gives us an opportunity to showcase the work we do with our partners and to break down any barriers or concerns the public might have about contacting us.’

Five-year-old Daisy Newbald, a pupil at JCG Prep, and Liliana Andrade (8), who attends Plat Douet School, have been awarded VIP status for the event after they won the emergency services’ competition to design a poster to advertise the event.

Islanders wishing to attend are asked to park at B&Q on Queen’s Road, from where there will be a shuttle service. There will be no parking at Rouge Bouillon.

Insp Coxshall added: ‘We are hoping for a really positive day. The last two events were very successful and we hope the public take the opportunity to engage with us.’
