Beaulieu School defends decision not to tell parents about suspended teacher for two weeks

It emerged on Thursday that a member of staff at the school is currently under investigation by the force.

The tutor, who has not been named, has since been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

The teacher was arrested on Friday 18 September and suspended immediately.

However, parents were not informed until an email was sent to them on Wednesday at around 9 pm after the JEP had asked police earlier in the day about the alleged incident.

Asked if the school should have told parents straight away that a member of staff has been arrested and suspended, Natasha Gaudin, head of business development at Beaulieu, said: ‘The decision to release information was led by the police.

‘This is a long process and the individual is innocent until proven guilty. It is the case that the person in question was not in school and they were not on the premise from the point of arrest. We followed all the safeguarding protocols.

‘From the moment the individual was arrested they have been suspended. We have been relying on the police to keep us informed of their investigation. We were following police advice.’

Mrs Gaudin added that ‘experienced’ members of staff have been brought in to cover in the suspended teacher’s absence.
