It’s all systems go (and dry weather) for Jersey Live

After a wet August, the rain is set to clear in time for the Island’s biggest music festival – although a few showers are predicted for tomorrow lunchtime.

This year’s Jersey Live, which is held at the Royal Jersey Showground in Trinity, will feature headline performances from The Vaccines tomorrow and Rudimental on Sunday, as well as sets from the likes of Years and Years, Circa Waves and Clean Bandit.

Temperatures are expected to reach around 18°C on both days. Sharon Merren, duty forecaster at the Met Office, said: ‘There is a weakening cloud front to come in overnight tonight and into tomorrow morning.

‘There may be some showers at the start of Jersey Live around tomorrow lunchtime, but after that, it’s looking like it should clear.’

Meanwhile, the police have advised the thousands of Islanders heading to the festival to stay safe and enjoy the music.

They are hoping that the trend of recent years, when they have had to make few arrests, continues.

Inspector Andy Bisson said: ‘The whole point of going to a festival is to enjoy the music and have fun with like-minded people, but we ask people to stay safe, and if there is any problem, to approach an officer or a member of staff and we will help.’

Festival organiser Warren Le Sueur warned that Jersey Live will have a zero-tolerance policy on drugs and that people will be searched upon entering the arena.

He added: ‘We want everyone to come to Jersey Live and have a safe and enjoyable time. We have a zero-tolerance policy on drugs and we would say to everyone just to enjoy what will be Jersey’s best weekend of the year.’

The festival gates are due to open at midday on Saturday.

Ollie Rankine looks ahead to the weekend of music

With the first weekend of September fast approaching and preparations at the Royal Jersey Showground entering the final stages, Jersey Live 2015 is almost ready to make some noise. The festival’s 12th year is on the horizon and with arguably its most exciting line up yet, Jersey’s music lovers will certainly be excited about the prospects that lie ahead.

The festival headliners this year include indie rock icons, the Vaccines and universal crowd pleasers Rudimental, both of which will no doubt prove they are up to the job of producing festival-closing performances. However, this year’s line-up holds a great deal more than first meets the eye.

The stage being erected earlier this week

When attention is diverted away from the top of the bill, we are presented with a diverse and exciting variety of modern talent. Saturday’s main stage will be kick-started by Welsh band Pretty Vicious, who are now known for their usually wonderful teenage delinquent display of rock and roll bedlam. After being discovered via the Internet in 2014, Pretty Vicious have now signed to Virgin EMI Records and have blossomed into a perfect festival opener.

Later on Saturday the main stage will host similarly chaotic London band Palma Violets. They’ve already proved their worth as a British band to be reckoned with following two critically-acclaimed studio albums and we can expect an intense, energetic spectacle during their debut Jersey Live performance. Immediately following the London four-piece on the main stage will be female-fronted, alternative rock band, Wolf Alice. Having recently released their greatly anticipated debut album, ‘My Love Is Cool’ in June earlier this year, this is a British band with something to prove. Following an emphatic Glastonbury ‘secret set’ performance, their Jersey Live slot is a must-see for all festivalgoers.

As the festival rolls through to Sunday, punk fans will certainly be excited about the third main stage slot of the afternoon. Jersey Live 2015 will be welcoming British two-piece, Slaves. With a sound that can only be described as a simple, yet brutal punk recipe, Slaves have totally captured imaginations with their politically-driven lyrics and explosive melodies. The punk duo have gradually built up a sterling reputation around their vigorous and powerful live performances. However, if you’re not a big fan of ‘mosh pits’, I wouldn’t recommend standing too close to the front!

Finally, the Jersey Live Sunday main stage will host colourful, new British indie-rock band, Circa Waves. The Liverpudlian four-piece have gone from strength to strength in recent months having released their raucous and immensely catchy debut album, ‘Young Chasers’ earlier this year and earned the number one position in NME magazine’s ‘best bands at Glastonbury 2015’ poll. Circa Waves will play third from the top of the bill and should certainly be a crowd pleaser with a set filled to the brim with ‘feel good’, summer anthems.
