The 1,000 people who attended the event enjoyed a variety of entertainment and demonstrations – including horse-drawn apple crushing, traditional bread making, Morris dancing, country music and story telling.

However, because of the heavy rain experienced in the last few weeks the wheat crop had not dried out and the annual bank holiday threshing had to be postponed.

Sally Fleming, director of Samarès Manor Limited said: ‘We were very pleased with how everything went – it was not a brilliant day weather wise, but we still had lots and lots of visitors. Everyone really got into the spirit of things and there was a jolly good atmosphere.’

She added: ‘It was disappointing not to have the threshing machine, but we were able to give an explanation of why it didn’t take place, so it didn’t mar the day.’
