Actress to deliver gay pride key note speech

Heather Peace, who is also a musician and has released several albums, has campaigned for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning rights for many years and is due to headline the Pride Stage at the Weighbridge at the pride event next month.

The Channel Islands’ first official pride event has been organised by charity Liberate, which was founded last year to educate and inform Islanders about the LGBTQ community.

Ms Peace, who will be performing an acoustic set at the Weighbridge as well as delivering the key note address, said: ‘I’m really very proud to have been asked to headline the Channel Islands’ first ever pride. This will be my first ever time performing in Jersey so I’m thrilled.

‘Being part of pride festivals is important to me. I believe it’s a way for the LGBTQ community to remind themselves how far we’ve come but that there is also still a way to go before we reach full equality.’

Stacey Yates, vice-chairman of Liberate, said: ‘We were thrilled when Heather said she would like to appear at pride.

‘Her work on television as an openly gay actress playing lesbian characters means that she has a special place in the LGBTQ community and her appearance at a number of Prides around the UK is testament to the affection in which she is held.

‘We are particularly pleased that Heather has agreed to headline the Pride Stage, in between her tour dates, so that the public get to hear her music and see another side of her work that they may not be aware of. ‘

The pride event is taking place on Saturday 12 September.
