Sunday’s Halkett Hoedown to be bigger and better

The second Halkett Hoedown will be held in Halkett Place on Sunday. The party is the idea of David Stokes, proprietor of Bean Around the World and a member of the Halkett Traders’ Association, and Louise Stirling of Headway Jersey and Niall Mac of Stoked Music.

Last year the event raised £11,750 for Headway Jersey and Mr Stokes said he hoped that even more money would be raised this year.

‘It’s going to be the best street party in Jersey,’ he added. ‘Last year was such a great vibe. It’s a really colourful, fun community event.

‘It’s going to be bigger this year. It’s going to stretch further up and down Halkett Place.’

As well as musical performances from artists such as Rick Jones, Frankie Davies and the Hoedown Superstars, there will also be a fancy dress competition, games and food and drink stalls at the free unticketed event.

A fifty/fifty cash raffle will also be held – with half of the money in the pot going to Headway Jersey with the other half going to the winner. Raffle tickets can be bought from John W. Nagle in the Central Market, Seedee Jons in Halkett Place, the Co-op Travel Maker in Don Street, 4 York Street Hair Salon and the Headway Jersey charity shop in New Street. Halkett Place will be closed to traffic between 1 pm and 10 pm on the day.
