Pride of Jersey 2015: It’s time for you to vote

Members of the public are invited to log on to prideofjersey.com to cast their vote and help decide who should be crowned the winners in each of the 12 categories.

Voting will close on Friday 14 August, after which the three most popular entries in each category will go forward to judging.

Each person is able to cast one vote in each of the 12 categories.

Ranging from Ambassadors and Inspirational Leaders to Unsung Sporting Heroes and Community Champions, each category plays an important part in Island life and now is the time for those at the heart of it to be celebrated.

Since the awards were launched in April, the Jersey Evening Post has been featuring every nominated group, organisation or individual it has received and features them all again in a 16-page reminder supplement inside today’s paper, which will help remind everyone of the hundreds of Islanders, groups and organisations that have been put forward.

Each one of them either has a remarkable story to tell or plays a vital role in our community, helping to make Jersey a wonderful place in which to live.

From grandparents and neighbours to community champions and teachers, the awards cover a broad section of the community and bring the Island’s unsung heroes into the limelight.

The awards, which are the centrepiece of the JEP’s year-long 125th anniversary celebrations, feature 11 categories.

The judging will be held at the Hotel de France on Monday 14 September, with all three finalists in each category being invited to our awards evening on Wednesday 23 September.

Event organiser Carl Walker, the JEP’s deputy editor, said: ‘With over 350 nominations received for just under 200 groups or individuals, we are delighted with the response from the public.

‘We are also very pleased that we have been able to stick to our promise and feature every single of one of them in the newspaper as they have come in.

‘Doing this has meant that we, and more importantly the public, has learned a great deal about the very many people who give up their time and effort to help shape Jersey into a wonderful place to live.’

‘It has been a pleasure dealing with all of the nominations that we have so far received and they have made us all realise just how many people are giving their time and effort to our community.

‘Some amazing stories have emerged and, in their own special way, each one of them is already a winner.’

Today’s supplement, free inside the JEP, reminds readers of every entry, and the reasons for the nominations can also be found on prideofjersey.com.

AFTER months of nominations and countless pages recounting the remarkable achievements and efforts of Islanders, voting has now opened for our Pride of Jersey Awards 2015.

The collection of stories and faces on the prideofjersey.com website and in our special supplement today goes to show what a diverse and strong community we are blessed to be living in.

The community as a whole is a cause for celebration, if for nothing more than to remind Islanders that it is the people of Jersey who make it what it is.

If you turn to our special nominations supplement you will be greeted by page after page packed with faces looking back at you.

Some of them have suffered hardship; some have dedicated their lives to caring for others; some simply do what they think is the right thing to do; others try their best to help others.

Varied as their qualities and skills might be, each one of them is doing their bit for the community and each one of them deserves the recognition they are getting today.

There is no doubting that the 180 or so Islanders who feature in the awards and who go forward to the voting stage of our Pride of Jersey Awards are just the tip of the iceberg in terms of the community spirit

Jersey has to offer.

But we have at least identified a large group of them and told their own, heart-warming stories.

If you feel proud to be part of Jersey, if you appreciate what it has to offer, if you simply enjoy living in a wonderful community, spare a few moments to browse through the website.

Some stories you may already know, others you will not.

Some may move you, others may inspire you.

Whatever your reaction, please cast your votes and help us to say thank you to reward those who are going that extra mile for our Island.
