Nine jobs go as lens mail order firm closes

Daysoft, who have been operating in the Island since 2008, announced yesterday that they plan to transfer the work carried out at their Jersey fulfilment centre to a site in Scotland next to their manufacturing plant.

The fulfilment centre, where orders are processed and filled, is based at Heron House at the Airport.

Company spokesman Ron Hamilton said: ‘Daysoft-branded contact lenses are made in Blantyre in Scotland.

As Blantyre has an order fulfilment department immediately adjacent to the final production process, it was decided to consolidate this work.

Blantyre will now handle both the order process work previously done in Jersey with the fulfilment work already established in Scotland.

‘The sheer weight of the economic and delivery speed argument was impossible to ignore – faster delivery times and first-rate tracking services are increasingly in demand and the Blantyre operation is geographically better placed to offer these.’

Daysoft has offered all staff at the Jersey branch redundancy payments above those required by law, and has invited HR specialists to assist staff to find new employment.

Mr Hamilton said that it was regrettable that Daysoft’s decision to close the Jersey fulfilment centre would result in local job losses.

He added: ‘We are doing all we can to help our staff and would like to pay tribute to the team for their hard work.’
