Get into the groove – 2,000 expected at festival this weekend

The non-profit event, which is raising money for Autism Jersey, has expanded its capacity to 2,500 following two consecutive sell-outs.

Beth Gallichan, founder of the festival, said tickets were likely to sell out.

‘We have sold 1,700 already but it looks like we are heading for a sell-out.

‘Considering our previous capacity has only been 1,500 we are doing really well.’

Forecasters are predicting dry conditions with maximum temperatures of 22°C for Saturday with light north-westerly winds.

Miss Gallichan added that she was pleased the sun was going to shine and said she was not worried by the weather earlier this week.

‘It always shines on Groove,’ she said.

Organisers have been on site since Tuesday assembling the multi-stage event.

Revelers at last year's Groove de Lecq music festival

This year the festival has been given permission by the Moulin de Lecq pub in Grève de Lecq, where is it staged, to expand into a nearby woodland.

That area that will now house the Woodland Stage which will feature poetry co-ordinated by the Island’s new literary festival Connections: Festival of Words, as well as acoustic music and storytelling.

As well as dedicated music stages the festival will also feature a reggae music zone, a silent disco and a children’s area.

Acts booked for this year’s event include Joe Young and the Bandits, Little Black Dress and Pirate Party Brigade.

Gates open at noon and the festival finishes at 11 pm.

Martin O’Neill, lead singer of Joe Young and the Bandits, said that Groove was special because it generates ‘a real community spirit’.

‘It’s great when you look around and there are families, groups of friends, neighbours, young and old people dancing and having such a good time,’ he said.
