The race is on to get rare Lancaster bomber ready for Jersey’s air show

The plane is one of only two surviving aircraft of its type and has appeared in a number of the Island’s previous displays.

Mike Higgins, Jersey display organiser, said: ‘There is a possibility that it may be fixed in time for this year’s show, but as a contingency, the owners have offered us a Dakota, which we have accepted in case the Lancaster is not ready.

‘I understand that they are quietly confident.

‘We want the Lancaster and they want to give it to us.

‘They are working on it as fast as they can.’

Last year both surviving Lancaster bombers flew together for the first time in 50 years at a number of British air shows, including Jersey’s.

Aircraft already confirmed for this year’s display include the Spitfire, the Hurricane, an RAF Sea King search and rescue helicopter and, as the traditional finale, the Red Arrows.
