ISLANDERS have taken to social media to name the worst dog mess hotspots in Jersey, as part of a campaign by the Environment Department.
Noirmont, Portelet and Jardin d’Olivet above Bouley Bay are among the areas which Facebook users say are the most badly affected.
As part of a campaign that was launched this week, the Environment Department has called on Islanders to help them draw up a list of the ten worst areas in Jersey. It says it will then focus resources on cleaning up those spots.
Following Thursday’s launch of the ‘Proud of you for picking up my poo’ campaign, which features a smiling dog called Eric, Islanders have been posting their views on the JEP Facebook page.
Posting on the JEP’s Facebook page, Julie Woosnam Jones said: ‘I’m fed up of cleaning shoes, buggy wheels and c*** off clothes. People placing poo bags wherever they want, even on someone’s memorial bench.’
Cate Hamilton said: ‘I never leave any of my dog’s mess anywhere or the bags I put it in. I loathe irresponsible owners… as it gives those of us who do pick up after our pets and dispose of litter sensibly a bad name and ensures we are victimised and our dogs’ freedoms restricted.’
Islanders have also been stating where they think are Jersey’s most troublesome areas.
Sonja Meacock said: ‘Rue du Haut and around Bel Royal School is terrible.’
Alex Mollin said: ‘Along the promenade in St Brelade’s Bay.’
And Sarah Perkins said: ‘Garden Lane all the way towards Rouge Bouillon School.’
Meanwhile, people have also posted on the Environment Department’s Eco-Active Facebook page, with some saying that they regularly come across dog mess on the sand dunes and cliff paths.
As part of the campaign, poo bags and posters will be handed out and Islanders will be given free stickers to put on their household bins informing dog walkers they are happy to accept their pet’s bagged waste.
To support the campaign you can download posters from the States website.
To nominate areas log on to the Eco Active Facebook page, view its Twitter feed or email Eco-Active at ecoactive@gov.je.
Garden Lane all the way towards Rouge Bouillon school. Fed up of dodging it!

Sand dunes are awful especially near the car park area. Certainly not a place to take the kids and the hounds!

Perfect example of how a law does little to change the situation, it’s down to the community to police this issue. Have a word with dog owners when you see them not picking up their dogs poo.

There should be a name and shame. Next time you see someone not picking up- take a picture – they get fined, you get a reward!

I don’t think dog mess is a particular problem, it is part of nature and nature provides its own solutions. Why does the government think it can improve on nature?

No one ever mentions horse poop or other animal poop, I clean up after my two dogs and I totally agree about poop on pavements etc but would never take my dogs in town or on pavements it’s fields , beach when allowed or dunes

The Sand Dunes are terrible and if they manage to get it into a bag they just leave them lying all over the place

Saw the other day, a guy in a suit with his dog in a car park, near some vegetation. Dog drops one in the car park, and the owner picks it up with a bag. I thought “Oh, good.” There was a dog bin around the small building, anyway. However, after picking it up, he just chucks it into the bushes…

Unfortunately we have had a spate of dog poo on our parking area outside our own home (private land). Lazy dog walkers just can’t be bothered to pick up their dogs poo so just try and cover it over with the stones so it’s left for my young children to walk in and for us to clean up. Disgusting.

Havre des pas is the dog poo capital. Every pavement is littered with it.

Sand dunes. As a dog owner myself, I am utterly shocked at the amount of dog poo left in the walkways. Disgusting people
