Motocross: Puncture ends terrific two-day tussle at Sorel

There was a good entry for the overall event, with many riders over from Guernsey in all groups. Le Viellez, on the Putoline Suzuki 250F, took two wins to Gregory’s single victory on the first day of racing, but both riders had falls in one race which resulted in placings further down the field.

Sunday began with Le Viellez taking the first win, but Gregory, on his Morris Marine Yamaha 250F, preferred the drier conditions in the afternoon as he took the weekend’s final two wins.

Toby Luce, on a weekend return from University, took the overall MX1 title on the KTM250cc, but the on-form Declan Hussey had a brilliant two-day event, only once finishing outside the top five. Elliott Jackson and Ben Le Cornu were unlucky to both pick up injuries which ruled them out, after both had had great results on the first day of action.

Jacky Clayden made the B Group his own, with five out of six victories. Only the last race of the day saw Clayden fall at the start and come away at the back of the pack. However, the 16-year-old dug deep and, with two laps to go, caught up with leader George Symonds from Guernsey; but a back marker through the meadow section saw Symonds safely through and Clayden unable to find a pass. Guernsey riders dominated the next few placings with Jersey riders, Steve Willis, Marc Riley and James Knight, always in the top ten.

The only overall Guernsey victory went to Dominic Bates in the Veteran Class from Trevor Carré and Michael Norman.

Adam Godwin maintained his dominance in the Big Wheel 85 cc class on the Farmhouse KTM machine with Damian Ribiero and Guernsey’s Ethan Bréhaut having a great tussle for second and third place, with both of them sharing the spoils.

In the small wheel 85 cc class it was again a clean sweep for Connor Gautron, from Joshua Du Four and Micah De Gruchy.

There was a great line up in the 65 cc class and automatic 50 cc class with four different winners in the 65 cc group. James Lees Baker took three wins, with Archie Langlois, Seb Moffet and Guernsey rider Braden Morris picking up a single each. Danilo Da Silva, in only his second event, picked up two wins in the 50 cc class on the Saturday, but ‘holeshot king’ Kerry Knowles won all three races on the Sunday.

A spokesperson for the Jersey Motor Cycle and Light Car Club’s motocross committee thanked sponsors Camerons, paramedic Jason Hamon, nurse Isobel Hamon and members of SJAB and Normandy Rescue.

The next event is ON 17 May, which concludes the first half of the season.
