  • 300.6mm – Total rainfall
  • 259.7 hours – Amount of sunshine

Sharon Merren, duty forecaster at Jersey Met Office, said: ‘At the moment we are still in a showery westerly flow, but high pressure from down near the Azores is going to drift towards us by Thursday and that’s going to bring drier weather and milder conditions.

‘We are looking at temperatures of up to 13°C, but there is uncertainty about cloud detail at the moment.’

Senior meteorologist Paul Aked

Meanwhile, figures for the winter season – defined by meteorologists as December, January and February – were released on Monday by Jersey Met Office.

They showed that the past few months were warmer, wetter and sunnier than the 30-year average used for comparison by the department.

Senior meteorologist Paul Aked said that this winter’s average temperature was 7.6°C compared to a 30-year average of 6.8°C.

‘The total rainfall was 300.6mm compared to an average of 277.3mm,’ he added. ‘And on sunshine, we had 259.7 hours, which compares to 234.6 as the average.

‘It wasn’t our sunniest winter – that was in 1997-8, when we had 351.4 hours of sunshine.’

Last week, a report issued by the Met Office showed that Jersey has warmed up significantly during the past 20 years.

The study of temperatures since 1894 showed that the number of hot days has increased and the number of cold days has fallen

Night-time temperatures have also increased.
