Jessica Pearce (16), one of the students who travelled to Romania, said: ‘I think I expected to see poverty when I went there but seeing it in real life was quite shocking and moving at the same time.’

The group was led by Beaulieu teachers Sharon Saunter and Sheila Crowsley, and they worked alongside Rose Hélie, the founder of Mustard Seed Jersey, and her team.

The school raised £5,000 before the students made the trip by running raffles, competitions and cake sales and collected more than 300 shoeboxes.
