Police issue Christmas burglary warning

But with Christmas now only ten days away, Detective Inspector Steve Langford, who is leading the force’s crackdown on burglary – known as Operation Hornet – is urging Islanders to be vigilant.

Despite a reduction in burglaries Islandwide, the number of reports in St Saviour increased from 16 last year to 25 this year. Figures show that the majority of cases – 16 – involve ‘non-dwellings’ including outhouses and garages.

Twenty-five of the 169 cases so far this year are categorised as ‘ongoing’, which means that the police are working on them until a person is sentenced.

The reduction in burglaries is being put down to the success of Operation Hornet, which was launched in 2012 following a rise in thefts from kiosks and building sites.
