Administrative error could lead to election re-ballot

The boundary line between Districts 1 and 2 lies halfway down Belmont Road, where his seconder lived. Neither Deputy-elect Wickenden or his seconder were aware that the seconder was outside of District 1.

An administrative error at the St Helier Town Hall failed to recognise the error and the nominations paper was confirmed to Deputy-elect Wickenden before the official hand-in date. The seconder was registered in St Helier District No 1, but moved address shortly before the election, although still believed that she was a constituent of District 1.

Deputy-elect Wickenden said that he has acted in ‘good faith in the belief that his seconder was a constituent of District 1’ and that he hoped the matter would be resolved quickly and sensibly.
