His trip to Thailand was a holiday after his time in Australia. Following the trip he was due to travel to other parts of South East Asia before returning to Leeds University to continue his studies and complete a Masters degree in engineering.

His family’s statement said: ‘David was an artist by temperament, so talented.

‘He had a creative eye that he carried with him through life and in his degree.

‘He was hard-working, bright, conscientious, with everything to look forward to.

‘David was very giving to his family and friends and we all adored him. He will be sorely, sorely missed.’

Dozens of the Jerseyman’s friends took to Facebook to pay tribute to the 24-year-old as news of his death began to circulate.
