Some of the best places to watch the International Air Display

A large crowd gathered near La Fregate Cafe

Elizabeth Castle

Not the easiest place to base yourself but it’s worth it for any serious photographers. The reason? You have the sun behind you, making it much easier to take pictures of the planes. You will need to get there early, as the route is closed for safety reasons during the display.

Millbrook Park

Perfect for families who want to enjoy a picnic on the grass and still soak up the atmosphere of the display. The trees will stop you seeing some of the planes’ manouvres but if it’s a sunny day at least you can enjoy your surroundings.

The Red Arrows always provide a thrilling finale to the display

The sea wall at First Tower

One of the busiest places to watch the display but for good reason. You enjoy an almost uninterrupted view of all of the aircraft and you are in the middle of an excited and enthralled crowd. With all the action taking place in the air and plenty of standing space, everyone gets a good view.

Pier Road car park

Parking shouldn’t be a problem and for once you won’t mind if the only space you can find is on the top floor. A concrete building may not be the nicest place to enjoy the planes going overhead, and you won’t see everything, but it is definitely an easy place to access.

Crowds have been enjoying the display for many years, including these people in 1963

Fort Regent

Gathering on the small hill at the very top of the site means that you gain a few extra feet on anyone watching from Pier Road, but there is not much space up there.

Noirmont

Again, another good place for a picnic or a lazy afternoon. The aircraft go out of view at times but the surroundings are stunning and you get a very different view of the display than most people enjoy.
