Outgoing minister issues pay freeze warning

Last month the 2015 Budget showed forecast shortfalls in States income of £34 million this year and £50 million in 2015 because of lower-than-predicted revenue from personal taxpayers and a fall in stamp duty because of a depressed housing market.

His comments follow the news that earnings have increased on average by more than the cost of living for the second year running, with a 2.6 per cent increase overall.

Senator Le Marquand, who is retiring from office in October, said that there could also be deficits in 2016, 2017 and 2018 and that the wage bill would probably be targeted if that was the case.
