The award for best hero was not announced on the television broadcast. However, it was confirmed that Mr Cavill won from a field of five nominees.
The annual awards celebrated films from the past 12 months.
The nominees were chosen by producers and executives of MTV and the winners were voted for by the public.
Mr Cavill, whose family lives in Jersey, has already signed up to reprise his role as Superman in a sequel to last year’s Man of Steel.
