Stay safe – and look oout for others in trouble, warn RNLI

The warning comes after an 11-year-old boy was rescued by an Islander after getting into difficulty while swimming from the Dicq slip to the Havre des Pas bathing pool on Saturday afternoon.

The RNLI advice is to raise an arm in the air and call for help if they get into difficulty while swimming.

Tips on how to stay safe

• When on a lifeguarded beach, find the red and yellow flags and always swim or bodyboard between them – this area is patrolled by lifeguards.

• Never swim alone

• Never use inflatables in strong winds or rough seas

• Check tide times before you go

• If you get into trouble stick your hand in the air and shout for help
