Support offered after teenager’s drug death

Youth workers and counsellors have supported more than 100 young Islanders after 17-year-old Jared Harrison died in a St Helier house on Saturday.

The former Les Quennevais School pupil died after taking a white powder purporting to be MDMA – one of the main components of ecstasy.

Three other teenagers were also taken to hospital after apparently taking the same substance, but they have since been discharged.

As the news of Jared’s death emerged at the weekend, eight members of the Jersey Youth Service team went out from lunchtime until 11.30 pm to talk to more than 100 teenagers at the skateboard park, the town park and in the St Brelade area.
