Baggage handlers to strike over Easter?

Economic Development Minister Alan Maclean said that it was important everything possible was done to avoid a strike – but added that the dispute was between the airlines involved and the unions and he was unable to intervene.

The impasse has arisen after Blue Islands transferred baggage handling to Aurigny as a result of a code share deal between the two airlines. The loss of business has led to Servisair saying savings need to be made.

Unite union official Nick Corbel said that the union would ballot its members soon and that the results should be available in four weeks.
