Now in its 19th year, World Book Day was first launched to encourage people around the world to celebrate reading.
At Samarès primary, the day included the official opening of the school’s new community library, funded by prize money from the JEP’s Cash for Schools scheme.
The library was opened by Wendy Hurford from The One Foundation, the sponsors of the competition, and the school’s English coordinator, Sarah Achler, who led the transformation of a previously unused room with a team of parent volunteers.
