Chapel celebrates 160th anniversary

The chapel opened in 1853 to serve the busy fishing community of La Rocque, where at least 40 boats were working at that time.

It followed two years of work by the then Rector of Grouville, the Rev Abraham Le Sueur, who recognised that many fishermen in the area could not attend church regularly because the parish church was too far away.

To mark the anniversary, a funday is being held today and a church service tomorrow.

The Dean, the Very Rev Bob Key, will open the funday, which takes place in the orchard opposite the chapel in Rue du Pont, from noon until 5 pm.

The Sunday service will be led by the current Rector, the Rev Mike Lange-Smith. During the service, a rededication will be led by the Dean, the Very Rev Bob Key.
