PLANS to build 33-ft weather masts on the main islands of the Minquiers and Ecréhous have been scrapped after serious concerns were raised by Islanders.

Instead the masts, which would monitor wind speeds and inform future plans for harnessing renewable energy, could be placed out to sea on outlying rocks.

The Environment department has this week submitted plans for masts in two locations, one 3 km from the main Ecréhous island and the other 6 km from the main Minquiers island.

So is this the new planning protocol: If something is controversial place it a on site that should receive the upmost protection. I suppose Portlet, Plemont(to be), and La Coupe developments set a precedent.

What about putting these masts at Trinity ?

perfect I would think, quiet and the highest place in the Island, I´m sure the people of Trinity would not have any objections.

How ironic... the people with holiday cottages on the the SSSI moan about something slightly more out of place than they are.
