STRUGGLING Islanders have been dealt a second blow since the turn of the year after it was announced gas prices are going up.

Less than two weeks after Jersey Electricity increased its rates by 9.5 per cent, Jersey Gas has said their tariffs will rise by three per cent before the end of the month.

Suppliers of bottled gas, Kosangas Jersey, have announced the same three per cent increase.

This actually would only be news had the price come DOWN. We all know the energy companies in Jersey are de-facto a monopoly, they can and do charge what they like and there is nothing this totally inept parliament will do stop this blatent profiteering because we have easily he worst group of politicians in the Western world.

It also an absolute necessity then that either income support is raised especially for pensioners and the elderly so that they can heat thier homes. They cannot afford heating as it is, and there should be a scheme available at social security available to everyone over 65. Heating costs are ridiculous in Jersey as is electricity. It does not cost the supplier anywhere near what we are charged and we are being ripped off constantly. Bring in independant suppliers I say, and let us have a choice.

My Opinion

I thought less than a month ago Jersey Gas stated that they had no plan to raise the cost in the "foreseeable" future......weren’t looking very far ahead there then!

What about the compensation thay mentioned for the nearby residents after the fire?

DREAM ON!
