Population surge may mean a new school

Weeks after it was announced that extra classes would be opened in two primary schools in September to cope with rising demand, Education Minister Pat Ryan says that the primary school system is ‘at capacity’ and that a decision will have to be made soon on what to do next.

The department expected 760 applications for children to start primary school this September, but received 830. It is currently investigating where the extra pupils have come from.
