Guthrie goes pro

Sent home from the Island Games in the Isle of Wight after breaking the Jersey Football Association’s code of conduct, Guthrie was back doing what he does best in the last fortnight, with two goals against Radcliffe and one against Premier League Blackburn Rovers on Saturday afternoon.

Guthrie signed a one-year contract, with an option for a further year, for Stanley on Saturday – after planting a header past former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as Rovers fielded a mixed side of senior and junior players in their 2-1 win.

Guthrie, who played in Jersey’s under-18, U21 and senior Muratti teams last season, said: ‘The last two weeks have been fantastic, certainly the best of my life and to have been offered and sign is contract I’m delighted.’
