Back in the groove

Cruising 23-3 at half-time, Jersey allowed the opposition back into the game in the second half to such an extent that Clifton’s director of Rugby, Darren Lloyd, seriously questioned Jersey’s promotion credentials.

‘They might be second in the league,’ he said, ‘but we won the second half 14-10.

”Yes, they dominated us in the scrum, but this is not a league-winning team.

‘To find out what they have to do to get better, they ought to look to the likes of Rosslyn Park and Barking. To my mind they’re quite an average side and, to be honest, I was disappointed with the standard of rugby they played.’

Nevertheless, having scored 20 tries last week in their 122-10 demolition of Newbury and five (including a bonus point) this week, Jersey matched their head coach, Ben Harvey’s desire, to reverse their habit of not being ruthless enough when they play away.
