Guernsey look to France for football fixtures

Island manager Tony Vance is convinced that more regular competition could also lead to the Sarnians getting their hands on the Muratti Vase more often than they currently do.

Guernsey used to play in the now defunct South and West Counties Championship but they withdraw after nine year in 2007 citing a lack of interest from the players and their island’s public.

Vance said: ‘I thought the competition had become tired, but if I look back we’ve won four Muratti finals in the last 17 years and three of those were when we were competing in the SWCC. You can’t ignore these statistics; having regular competitive games gains success.’
