Despite falling behind to a fine strike from outside the penalty area by Ruben Pestana, the Scots equalised with a fortuitous goal from playmaker Matthew Kennedy and then won through a quality 20-yard free kick by Joseph Chalmers.
Mathie, whose team is in the Island on a training camp ahead of this season’s Victory Shield tournament, said: ‘This is the best Jersey team we’ve played against in all the years we have been here. Jersey fully deserved their 1-0 half time lead, they played some excellent football throughout and we had to work really hard to get the result.
‘We upped the tempo second half and we very fortunate with the equalising goal but full credit to our player for closing the goalkeeper down.’
