Football: Island U13s find going tough in Mondial Pupilles

Jersey opened their account yesterday morning with a 1-0 defeat by Belgium’s Royal Bossu Borinage.

JFA football development officer Brian Oliver said the Jersey fledglings started well and they were unlucky to concede the goal as a shot took a deflection to loop up over goalkeeper Euan Van der Vliet.

Although Jersey did not create many chances they did work hard defensively as they soaked up a lot of pressure.

Jersey then beat Le Chaudron, from the Reunion Island, 3-1. Jack Gibson chipped the ball over the advancing goalkeeper for the first goal and Tom Ward made it 2-0 with a volley into a top corner from 18 yards.

Jersey play French team Lannion this afternoon before completing their group matches tomorrow against Brazilian’s Lide Sao Paulo and Belgium’s Royal White Star Woluwe. Jersey are currently joint fifth in a tough group with three games remaining.
