Wanderers retain U18 title

JERSEY Wanderers retained the under-18 Division I title on Sunday morning after thumping Trinity, their only challengers, 6-1 at Hockey Club.

And it was a victory Wanderers thoroughly deserved as they kept their composure against opponents who collected six cautions, with two of them resulting in midfielder Ruben Pestana being sent off. Wanderers manager Daryn Noble said: ‘It was a tough game and a fantastic result. I told the lads at half time when we were leading 1-0 to remain focused and the goals would come and they did.

‘The skill of Barry Keith was excellent and his second goal was fantastic; he took on everyone to score a great goal. Our success this season has been down to having a talented group and getting few serious injuries. The group has a good spread of players from the top and bottom of the age group and they’ve been compatible.’
