Saints made to work hard for place in final

CHAMPIONS St Paul’s reached their third cup final of the season last night following a 2-1 victory after extra time against Grouville at Springfield.

The Saints set up a mouth-watering Le Riche Cup final against Jersey Scottish, on Tuesday 17 March, after captain Stuart André hit home a last-minute penalty kick. It was a backs-to-the-wall victory as the Saints had defender Scott Devlin sent off late in the first half, following two cautions, and they played the final 28 minutes of extra-time without the injured Luke Watson.

‘Grouville got exactly what they deserved,’ said St Paul’s manager Craig Culkin. ‘We also had defender James Quérée off the field with a sore chest and even though we only had eight players Grouville still only played one in attack.’
