St Brelade in last four

ST BRELADE won the battle of the western parishes by beating St Peter 4-0 in the quarter-final of the Under-18 Tregear Cup at Les Quennevais.

In truth, however, in a powerful and constant wind blowing from west to east, the weather had as much as a say in Sunday’s result as the skills of the players.

‘The wind spoilt the game as a competition,’ said St Peter’s manager, Colin Pack, afterwards. ‘Yes,’ agreed St Brelade manager Mark Kelly. ‘In the conditions it was a good game, but the wind meant it was one of those games where you had to take your chances because it was very difficult playing the ball to feet.

‘The scoreline probably flatters us a bit because St Peter play like a First Division team – I do wish they didn’t divide the league into four and six after the Christmas break. Five in Division I and the other five in II would make it much fairer – some of the St Peter boys deserve First Division football.’
